New Car Club Launched at Berkeley Group’s Grand Union Development

A new car club has officially launched at Grand Union, the transformative 22-acre mixed-use development by the Berkeley Group in Alperton. In partnership with innovative car-sharing platform Hiyacar, the new scheme aims to support sustainable travel and reduce private car ownership within the growing community.

The initiative begins with the introduction of a Toyota Yaris (automatic), available for hire by the hour each day. Thanks to Hiyacar’s QuickStart keyless technology, users can access and start the vehicle via the Hiyacar app, eliminating the need for physical key handovers and offering enhanced convenience and flexibility.

The car club is open to both residents and business staff within the Grand Union development, which is already home to over 1,000 - 1,200 residents to date. If uptake is strong, the fleet is expected to expand to meet local demand.

“We’re proud to work with Berkeley Group on this forward-thinking initiative,” said Don Iro, CEO at Hiyacar. “Car sharing offers a practical, low-impact way to get around, especially in new communities where space, sustainability and lifestyle flexibility are key priorities.”

Grand Union is set to deliver over 3,350 new homes, including more than 1,000 affordable units, extensive open spaces, a new medical centre, shops, restaurants, and leisure facilities. The development also features around 590 active and passive EV charging points and improved walking and cycling infrastructure connecting to Stonebridge Park Station.

The launch of the car club reflects the development’s ongoing commitment to fostering environmentally conscious, well-connected urban living.
