Introducing the East Lothian Council Electric Vehicle Car Club: A Sustainable Partnership with Hiyacar

In an exciting partnership between Hiyacar, East Lothian Council (ELC), and Transport Scotland, East Lothian is set to witness the launch of its own electric vehicle car club. Scheduled for May 3rd 2024, this initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable transportation solutions in the region.

Driving Sustainable Mobility

The 12-month pilot program, kicking off this May, aims to reduce ELC’s Grey Fleet mileage claim by encouraging staff to utilise electric vehicles conveniently stationed near their workplace or residence. Leveraging grey fleet data analysis and assessing the availability of charging infrastructure across East Lothian, ELC has identified five strategic locations to host these electric vehicles.

The selected sites include:

  • Port Seton Community Centre, S Seton Park, Port Seton, Prestonpans EH32 0BG
  • Haddington Long Stay Car Park, Calder’s Lawn, Haddington, East Lothian. EH41 3LZ
  • Loch Centre, Loch Square, Tranent, EH33 2JX
  • Prestonpans Community Centre, Preston Rd, Prestonpans EH32 9QS
  • The Bleaching Field Centre, Bleachingfield, Countess Cres, Dunbar EH42 1DX

As part of the pilot, ELC seeks to make these electric vehicles available to the public during evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Through the user-friendly Hiyacar app, individuals can quickly sign up and verify their identity to rent these vehicles for as little as £4.50 per hour. ELC will receive 100% of the rental revenue generated during these periods, contributing to their cost-saving efforts.

Reducing Emissions, Empowering Communities

The primary goal of the project is twofold: to minimise ELC’s spending on car rentals and grey fleet mileage claims, and to reduce carbon and particulate emissions associated with council business activities. Moreover, by providing affordable access to zero-emission mobility options, the initiative aims to empower the community to embrace sustainable transportation practices.

Hiyacar: Driving Innovation

Hiyacar is proud to collaborate with ELC and Transport Scotland in this forward-thinking endeavour. Tony English, Executive Chair of Hiyacar, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasising the company’s commitment to offering East Lothian residents access to eco-friendly transportation solutions.

Seamless Booking Process

Booking and utilising the ELC Car Club cars is as effortless as booking a regular Hiyacar. With hourly rates starting from £4.50 and daily rates from £35, accessing sustainable transportation has never been more convenient or affordable.
