Reducing our carbon footprint

Transport-related carbon emissions have a major impact on the air we breathe and contribute towards global warming. In a bid to decrease our impact on the environment, we have teamed up with Trees for Cities in an attempt to reduce our carbon footprint.

This is only our first step en route to creating a truly sustainable car sharing community. We have big plans to not only offset our emissions but also to help fund clean energy research, air quality improvement & contribute to charities who are making a difference to those affected by global warming. Stay tuned for more info!

Offsetting alone isn’t going to solve the problem but everyone who chooses Car Sharing over vehicle ownership is making a difference. The emissions created during the manufacturing process can match or even exceed exhaust emissions over a car’s lifetime. By sharing existing cars we can reduce the number of cars that need to be manufactured and by partnering with Trees for Cities we can further reduce the impact of emissions in our cities.

Who are Trees For Cities?

Trees for Cities (TfC) is an independent charity (1032154) set up in 1993. We are the only UK charity working at a national and international scale to improve lives by creating greener cities. We get stuck in with our dedicated volunteers to cultivate lasting change in neighbourhoods – whether it’s revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments or growing food with kids.

Our work focuses on areas of social and environmental deprivation, bringing together local communities to work on practical greening and educational projects in urban spaces. Through our work we place a special emphasis on the involvement of local people and especially disadvantaged people who often suffer barriers to participation and are disengaged from their local environment.

We currently deliver projects in cities throughout the UK in cities including London, Reading, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Cardiff, Brighton, Nottingham, Peterborough, Bradford and others. We also deliver projects overseas in cities including Nairobi, Addis Ababa, La Paz and Ica.

How does it work?

When making a booking, you will be presented with the option to offset your emissions at checkout. We have worked out what the emissions are from an average trip based on each vehicle type and will offer you the option to offset those emissions. We collect all this money and send it directly to TreesForCities, we don’t keep any of it.

The truth is that it’s not easy to accurately calculate a trips emissions upfront and in some cases the amount you pay doesn’t cover the full output. To keep it simple for drivers we check after your trip has completed and we cover any shortfalls.

What else are we doing? Promoting electric and hybrid vehicles

Full Electric

The future is electric and we want to support it, anybody who owns an electric vehicle and shares it on our platform will get 100% of the income for the first 3 months, we won’t take a penny.

Hybrid vehicles

Hybrids aren’t perfect but they are better than petrol or diesel cars so anybody who signs up with a Hybrid vehicle will get 100% commision for the first month.

Get involved

As well as paying for the trees we also help Trees for Cities by planting them, as a contributor you will be able to get involved.

At the start of tree planting season we will email everyone who contributed throughout the year and invite you to come down and help us plant for the day. Keep your eyes posted for your invite.
