Frequently asked questions

How does the insurance work?

The car is covered with our off-hire insurance when it's not hired by another Hiyacar driver. The excess is X. When the car is hired by Hiyacar member, our regular insurance policy takes over.

Who can subscribe?

Due to limited stocks, our car subscription offer is only available for Hiyacar drivers aged 30+ with at least 1 previous hire on our platform.

Who pays for parking? You are responsible for parking. We will provide you with a subscription contract which you can use with your council or property manager to get a parking permit.

Who pays for cleaning?

You are responsible for cleaning the car after your own use. However, if a driver returns the car dirty, you can claim a cleaning fee via our platform.

What is the minimum contract length?

The minimum contract length is 1 month.

How much notice do I need to give to cancel my subscription?

We require a minimum notice period of 7 days.

What happens if a Hiyacar driver damages the car I’m subscribed to?

Damages on hire are covered by our insurance. You are responsible for declaring the damage and opening a damage claim via our website with 24hrs of the drivers' return.

Why is more expensive to subscribe and share in London than Edinburgh?

Our subscription price includes an insurance cost which varies depending on location risk. London is rated as more risky than Edinburgh.

How much can I expect to earn?

If your car is available 100% of the time you can expect to earn ():

  • London Between £170 & £304, with 8 to 13 hires

  • Bristol & Edinburgh Between £146 & £302, with 7 to 12 hires

Most subscribers so far do an average of 5 hires and earned an average of £109 per month since their cars are not available 100% of the time.

What is in my control?

Just like any Hiyacar owner you will be in control of your pricing, booking settings (notice period, max duration, instant book, etc.) and how often you wish to hire it out.

What am I responsible for when my car is hired?

Just like any Hiyacar owner, you are responsible for the cleanliness of the car before it gets hired. You are also responsible for declaring and claiming any damage, missing fuel or cleaning fee after the car is returned.

How do I end my subscription? To end your subscription you will need to return the car to its drop-off location, clean, with a full tank of fuel. Once the car is back to its original location you will need to confirm with the team via Live Chat so we can end your subscription payments and remove you from the insurance policy. If we are not informed that you have returned the car then payments will continue to be charged.You will also need to send the key back to the address given on your documentation by registered post. If the key is not returned within a week of ending the subscription then late fees may apply (though we all want to avoid these). Do I get a refund if I return the car early? Subscriptions are monthly so do only roll over to the next month if you really want the car. We do not provide refunds if the car is bought back early.
